The Frankfurter Buchmesse (FBM), held annually in mid-October in Frankfurt, Germany, is the world’s largest trade fair for books. It brings together thousands of publishing companies, literary agents, authors, and professionals from around the globe. In 2023, the fair saw approximately 125,000 visitors, marking a notable increase from previous years and showing recovery from the disruptions caused by the pandemic. Over its five-day duration, the fair is open exclusively to professionals for the first three days, with the weekend reserved for the general public.
Looking ahead, the 2025 edition of the Frankfurter Buchmesse will see the Philippines take the spotlight as the Guest of Honour. This honor was formally announced in August 2023 during a signing ceremony in Davao, Philippines, attended by Juergen Boos, Director of the Frankfurter Buchmesse, and officials from the NBDB. The Philippines’ participation will mark the second time a Southeast Asian country has been featured as the Guest of Honour, following Indonesia's turn in 2015.
As Guest of Honour, the Philippines will have a unique opportunity to showcase its rich literary heritage, culture, and arts to a global audience. This milestone will serve as a catalyst for increasing international recognition of Filipino authors and publishers, with MRenkerBooks expected to play a pivotal role in contributing to the success of the country’s literary presentation in Frankfurt. With its presence at the 2023 Frankfurter Buchmesse, MRenkerBooks continues to establish itself as a key player in the international publishing landscape, promoting the diversity and creativity of Filipino literature on one of the world's biggest literary stages.
